Nigerian Afrowave superstar Rema to perform at the 2024 BRIT Awards

Nigerian Afrowave superstar Rema and Jungle will perform at the 2024 BRIT Awards with Mastercard.

The two acts join previously confirmed artists Dua Lipa, Kylie Minogue and RAYE, who will take the stage at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday 2 March.

Both have been nominated for the BRIT Award for the first time this year: Jungle is nominated for “Group of the Year”, while Rema is nominated for “International Song of the Year” for his UK Top 5 single “Calm Down”.

Speaking about his upcoming performance, Rema said: “It is an honour to return to the O2 Arena this year to perform at the BRIT Awards.”

Jungle – consisting of Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland – said: “It is an honour for us to be able to perform at this year’s BRIT Awards. We are delighted to be part of such a great show for British music.”

Rema from Benin City has achieved global superstar status. In 2023, Rema visited nearly 25 European countries and countless states across the Americas to perform, and he capped the year with a sold-out headlining show at the O2 Arena, his biggest concert to date.

He became the first African artist to have a billion streams on Spotify, won the first-ever Best Afrobeats award at the MTV VMAs, and is now the longest-running African artist on the Billboard Top 100. He also earned a Guinness World Record as the first artist to hit number one on the MENA charts. As well as being a hit in the UK, “Calm Down” reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified gold once, diamond six times, and platinum nine times worldwide.

In other BRITs news, it has been confirmed that radio presenters and music tastemakers Yinka Bokinni and Jack Saunders will present The BRITs’ Red Carpet and The BRITs’ Aftershow, a brand new live switch-over show for ITVX, premiering straight after the main show on ITV1 from 7.30pm on ITV2 – a first for ITVX. The BRITs’ Red Carpet will bring viewers all the latest buzz from the iconic BRITs red carpet as celebrities and artists arrive for the big night. The BRITS’ Aftershow will bring backstage and previously unpublished exclusives from the awards ceremony – behind the scenes at the awards ceremony and around it, as well as exclusive interviews with artists and award winners; an in-depth debrief and rundown of all the highlights from the night.

Yinka said: “Hosting the Bring on the BRITs nominations show earlier this year was incredible. It’s an honour to be back so soon and to be hosting the red carpet show for ITV2. It’s a dream! I’m so excited to be doing this alongside my mate Jack Saunders. I really can’t wait to see the nominees again and be part of such an iconic night celebrating the world’s greatest talent. Let’s go!”

Jack added: “It’s been my life’s dream to be a presenter at the BRIT Awards this evening. I can’t wait to rock the red carpet with Yinka and bring a bit of fun and chaos to the evening.”

The nominations for the 2024 BRIT Awards were announced last month and the nominees include Arlo Parks, Blur, Calvin Harris, Central Cee, Dave, Dua Lipa, Fred again…, Jessie Ware, J Hus, Little Simz, Olivia Dean, Mahalia, PinkPantheress, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, RAYE, The Rolling Stones, SZA, Taylor Swift and Young Fathers.

The winners of the Genre Awards will be determined by a public vote exclusively via Instagram. Voting began on Thursday, February 1st at noon and ends tonight, Thursday, February 15th at 6pm.

To vote, fans can either go to the BRITs page on Instagram (@BRITs) and comment on the Reel of their choice in the Reel category using an artist-specific hashtag, or create a Reel and use the tag @BRITs and the artist-specific # in the caption.

On Thursday (24.02.15) there will be a power window where the votes cast count double, that is, a comment counts two votes and creating a reel counts ten votes.

For more information about voting, including full terms and conditions, visit the BRIT website: www.brits.co.uk/vote.

The BRIT Awards 2024 with Mastercard will be broadcast exclusively on ITV1, STV, ITVX and STV Player on 2 March from 8.30pm.
