Police have said their sympathy goes out to the victims of yesterday’s “brutal” knife attack in Leicester Square and that police continue to support them and their families.

Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah said: “This is a horrific incident and our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We will continue to offer them support over the coming days and weeks.”

Police confirmed that the mother of the girl stabbed in the Leicester Square attack was not injured in the attack.

It was initially assumed that the 34-year-old mother of the 11-year-old girl had also been injured in the stabbing. However, it was later confirmed that the blood from her daughter’s injuries had been mistaken for her own injuries.

The eleven-year-old’s injuries are unlikely to be life-threatening.

A saleswoman heard screams outside and said she found the girl lying on the floor with wounds on her face. the mirror reports.

She said: “I heard screams and then I saw the girl with a lot of blood all over her face.

“Two security guards held him down. It seemed like a random attack. He didn’t fight back against the security guards. He didn’t even offer resistance.”
