Concord winery says goodbye to the city center

DOWNTOWN CONCORD – A longtime Concord company is leaving downtown to make room for another business.

“We are saddened to share this news,” Cabo Winery posted on Facebook Monday afternoon. “After nine years in downtown Concord, we were unable to break our lease. We must close as the building is being sold and the new buyers are opening their new business venture.”

There may be hope for a new location, but Cabo Winery had no concrete plans.

“As difficult as it is to say goodbye to this location, we are evaluating our options for the future,” the company said. “We want to thank our customers for the wonderful 9 years we have spent at 37 Union St.”

Cabo Winery is holding a warehouse sale: “We don’t know the exact timeline, but right now we are holding an emergency sale. Everything we have must be sold. All bottles of wine (except Mistletoe Red) will be sold for $15 a bottle.”

Reactions to the post ranged from anger and sadness to encouragement to open at another location:

“I can’t decide if I’m sadder or angrier. I hate to see such a respected small business being pushed out by the big guys,” one person posted.

Another person said, “I hate to read this but I hope you open a new location! We love your wines!!”

“This is awful. I hope you reopen soon. You have a talent not only for making wine, but also for turning friends into family,” said another.

Cabo Winery is one of the businesses participating in Concord’s new social district, which allows the consumption of alcoholic beverages on sidewalks and in public areas.
