Is it the 77th or 78th Independence Day? Everything you need to know

Independence Day 2024: It is celebrated by raising the national flag and singing the national anthem.

India gained its independence from the British colonial rulers on August 15, 1947, after a long struggle. On this day, we remember the freedom fighters who fought for the independence of our country. Several prominent buildings across the country are illuminated in the colors of the flag. Every year, this day is observed by hoisting the national flag and singing the national anthem. People organize cultural programs and seminars to pay tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom.

Will India celebrate its 77th or 78th Independence Day in 2024?

At the heart of the debate are two assumptions: Can this day be counted from August 15, 1947, the day India gained independence, or from the day its first anniversary was celebrated a year later?

This year, India is celebrating its 78th anniversary of independence, counting from Independence Day. However, since August 15, 1948, it is the 77th Independence Day.

The Press Information Bureau announced that August 15, 2022, will be celebrated as the 76th Independence Day. According to our government’s calendar, this year will be India’s 78th Independence Day.
