Bucs C Robert Hainsey explains.

Joe knows that in the last few months, after former Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales left for the Stinking Panthers, many people have taken the opportunity to jinx Canales.

Joe can’t go there. Joe thought

Canales has been good overall for the Bucs. (OK, OK, OK, anyone would have looked good compared to Canales’ predecessor, who, to Joe’s knowledge, has not coached in college or the NFL since joining the Bucs.)

That’s not to say that Joe didn’t have problems with Canales, especially with his style of play. He tried to turn Rachaad White into Marshawn Lynch, and that was a joke.

(Over the last few days of practice, including the worthless preseason game in Cincinnati and after hearing Todd Bowles’ words about the running game, Joe almost feels like the Bucs are trying to phase out White as the primary running back.)

So Joe found it very interesting that Robert Hainsey, last year’s center, took the podium in the Bucs media studio yesterday and said the Bucs’ new offensive coordinator, Liam Coen, has been good for the team and especially for the offensive line.

“It felt really good,” Hainsey said of Saturday finally playing something resembling a game with Coen calling the shots on offense. “Honestly, it was a lot of fun to work through the way we’ve been coached and how that scheme, I think, fits our strengths and put on video what we’ve been doing in practice.”

Hainsey added that Saturday night was no fluke because the offensive line, which consisted almost entirely of substitutes, played so well.

“We’re athletic, we can move and we can get guys moving,” Hainsey said. “We’re a powerful team. We’re smart. We can put ourselves in the right position.”

“I think it just works because the coaches also have to work with what they know, but I think it’s been a good combination so far.

“This offseason, this (training) camp and this preseason – one game – you’ve seen how the plan that Liam (Coen) put together, the coaching we got with Coach (Kevin) Carberry, how it all came together, and you can see we’re moving in the right direction.”

So read between the lines. Haisey believes the coaching the Bucs offensive line is receiving this summer has been a big help.

Again, Joe isn’t trying to badmouth Dave Canales here. But it’s interesting to Joe that Hainsey took the trouble to praise how he and the other guys on the offensive line have responded to the new offensive coaches on the Bucs’ staff.
