James And Meitalia still the most frustrating new couple 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Season 6 for me. Just when it seemed like James’ inability to have conversations at appropriate times was bad enough, we now learned the main reason that is keeping them from living in Indonesia long-term. When the episode ended with Meitalia crying and kissing her mother’s feet, I really wondered if they were serious about living in Indonesia or if it was all just for plot purposes.
Ironically Statler And Dempsey-Wilkinson aren’t the only couple having car drama. James and Meitalia also talked about the installments they pay on their car back home. Here’s what we heard about that situation and why I’m becoming more and more convinced that they have no formal plans to stay in Indonesia.
As we learned in “A Risky Business,” James is worried about whether they can live in Indonesia given their current financial situation. Although he originally wanted to move with $10,000 in savings, he said their car back home needs repairs and they still owe $15,000 on the car. They currently pay $700 a month for it and sell banana chips with a margin that only gives them a dollar or less in profit per unit sold, so unless something major changes, they’ll quickly burn through their savings.
While James and Meitalia were agonizing over what to do, their parents agreed to pay off the debt. And I couldn’t help but wonder why they had to pay off a car in the US at all instead of selling it or trading it in. What’s the use of having a car abroad that you don’t plan on driving any time soon?
In my opinion, it would make more sense to sell the car and use the money earned from it to pay off some of the debt. But since Meitalia’s family is offering to pay off the debt, they can keep the car without any worries. But why would they do that if they don’t plan on driving it in the near future?
Will James and Meitalia stay in Indonesia?
I have legitimate doubts about whether James and Meitalia will stay in Indonesia. As I mentioned in an earlier reaction, I was taken by surprise when a family member actively discouraged her from moving back and it just doesn’t make sense for them to do that. James had a steady job with his family back home and was earning far more than they could hope to earn in Indonesia. Perhaps the reason the vehicle hasn’t been sold is because he believes that Meitalia will eventually realise that they need to return home.
90 Day Fiancé: The ‘Happily Ever After’ revelation revealed massive problems with Angela and Michael that could explain their split
That explains so much.
Or maybe she doesn’t, and the fact that he has already faced a doomed marriage makes him cautious, as he believes they could be the next married 90 Day couple to split up. Compared to other couples this season like Josh And lilytheir marriage seems far less stable, at least on the surface. I’m especially worried about what will happen when they finally talk about kids, and I expect money will become a factor again.
I’m rooting for James and Meitalia, but I just don’t know how life in Indonesia is going to work. He doesn’t speak the language, they can’t make enough money selling banana chips to buy a house, and the chances of him finding a better job in the country are pretty slim. I think they need to go back to the US and come up with a better plan before they try again, and at least make sure they have a stable nest egg before they can seriously consider this.
We will see if James and Meitalia find a new way to stay in Indonesia while their adventure on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way continues to air Mondays at 8pm ET on TLC. Tune in to see how that whole crying moment plays out with her parents and if the conversation about kids will come up in the future.
