3 key takeaways from day 12 of the 2024 Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp

Thursday was day 12 of Buccaneers training camp, and things were a little quieter this time. The team was not wearing any equipment and was mostly busy doing routine work before the preseason game.

As always, BucsGameday was there in person to cover all the action. Here are five takeaways for you:

Devin Culp shines again

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a decision to make between keeping tight end Devin Culp or returning player Ko Kieft — it’s unlikely they’ll keep both. So far, Culp is pushing to be that guy.

He caught the football several times today, so he’s continued to work hard, and he made a pretty impressive one-handed catch at the end of practice, too. He’s definitely been putting in the effort, and it could pay off if he has a good preseason game.

Kyle Trask recovers

Kyle Trask had a bit of a down day on Day 11, but came back strong on Day 12. He continued his good connection with wide receiver Cody Thompson, delivering him another big long ball throughout the day. He also kept himself clean, throwing only a single interception, which came as a result of Jalen McMillan dropping a pass rather than anything he did himself.

His performances are so good that he is in the starting lineup for Tampa Bay’s warm-up game against the Cincinnati Bengals – and Todd Bowles said he is “a little ahead” of John Wolford in the competition for the second quarterback.

Many starters rest in lowkey training

The team is traveling to Cincinnati to play the Bengals soon, so practice was fairly quiet. Players weren’t wearing any gear, and while veterans like Mike Evans, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and a few others participated in individual drills, many of them took the day off and participated in team drills.

Currently, the Buccaneers are ready to play some preseason games, and since they are not using any regular players, some young players will get a chance to prove themselves.
