In total, 47 lawyers are moving from Holland & Knight to Polsinelli, including 35 lawyers who will open an office in Philadelphia for their new firm.

According to an August 8 press release, Polsinelli is taking on 30 partners, one lawyer and 16 employees. The announcement includes exact numbers on the newcomers after Polsinelli initially announced a lower number last month.

Publications reporting on the announcement include Law360, Reuters and Law.com.

According to Reuters, Holland & Knight lost nearly half of its Philadelphia lawyers as a result of these moves.

However, according to a statement published by Law.com, Holland & Knight said its Philadelphia office still employs nearly 40 lawyers with extensive experience in a variety of legal areas. The firm said it will “continue to invest in and grow our Philadelphia office.”

The partner acquisition will create one of the leading executive compensation and employee stock ownership programs practices in the country, Polsinelli said.

In addition to the Philadelphia office, the new attorneys will work in Polsinelli’s offices in Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, New York, Denver and Dallas.

Reuters called the lateral moves “one of the biggest mass hirings by a law firm this year.” In April, about 50 lawyers moved from Moye White to Fennemore Craig. Also in April, 17 lawyers left Munger, Tolles & Olson to join Baker McKenzie.

Law.com compared the move to Paul Hastings’ hiring of 43 restructuring lawyers from the now-defunct firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan two years ago.
