One more cool day before temperatures return in mid-August

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – It’s been pretty cold since last Monday. During that time period (not including today), five of the last six days have been below 80 degrees, and that could happen again Tuesday afternoon before the general weather pattern changes.

The thick cloud cover is what makes it feel more like September and October than the end of summer. Fortunately, our temperatures tonight will be about average, with lows between 15 and 18 degrees. Dew points will be close to our lows, leading to some fog overnight and into the morning on Tuesday.

There could also be one or two isolated severe storms further west this evening. Gusty winds and heavy hail remain the main concerns.

An upper-level disturbance will bring some showers and thunderstorms to southern Nebraska overnight, but closer to Lincoln the chances are low. Still, some precipitation in the morning is not out of the question.

Highs on Tuesday will be limited to 77 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit in most places, and even above 80 degrees in the Panhandle.

Meanwhile, another low risk is in place Tuesday, but this time across much of the state. An unstable environment along with plenty of moisture will favor showers and storms, with isolated severe weather possible overnight and into early Wednesday morning.

Rain chances will likely continue through Thursday morning/afternoon before finally clearing up. Ultimately, 0.5-1.5 inches could fall Monday through Thursday.

And once again, the cool phase ends on Wednesday, as maximum temperatures return to almost normal and last until next weekend.
