Aliquippa’s players and coaches react to recent coaching changes
The Aliquippa football program is responding to the recent news that head coach Mike Warfield will be on leave for the 2024 season and Vashawn Patrick will now lead the program.
As communities around Beaver Valley prepare for the final days of summer vacation, it’s important to remember when students need to report for the first day of school.
Although the warm weather makes it seem like summer vacation is still in full swing, classes at several schools won’t start until next week. In several municipalities, classes will begin no earlier than Wednesday, August 21, but several other municipalities are opting for a slightly later start this year, giving their students an extra week to enjoy the sun.
Only one district, the Ellwood City School District, will start after Labor Day this year. During the holiday, many students can expect a little break from classes because there is a long weekend on Monday, September 2nd.

Aliquippa School District

What’s new in the district?
- Earlier this month, the PIAA withdrew its emergency motion against the Aliquippa School District, which wanted to let the Quips program play in Class 5A in the 2024 football season. While the PIAA had cited its competitive balance rule as the reason for the potential move, judges involved in the lawsuits questioned that policy and the organization’s lack of rebuttals to medical reports submitted in May regarding student safety.
- Aliquippa School District students will also have access to a new Boys and Girls Club in the high school building. Organizers say the club will serve as both an afterschool program and a way to reach youth during school hours. The grand opening of the new space will take place on the school district’s first day of operations, Aug. 22, at 3 p.m.

- The district welcomed its new superintendent, Sean Aiken, over the summer season. Aiken has a doctorate in educational administration from Point Park University and experience in local schools, most recently holding the position of superintendent for the Shaler Area School District.
