USDA’s national corn and soybean condition ratings held up last week. This followed another week of generally favorable weather, with issues in some areas offset by much better conditions elsewhere in the region.

As of Sunday, 67 percent of U.S. corn was still rated good to excellent, 94 percent of the crop is flowering, 60 percent is in the dough formation phase and 18 percent has developed a dent; all values ​​are at or above the respective five-year average.

68% of the soybeans remain rated as good to excellent, 91% are flowering and 72% are in the pod setting phase, both above average.

93% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to the normal rate of 91%.

72% of spring wheat is in good to excellent condition (a decrease of 2%) and 18% has been harvested, compared to 21% on average.

46% of U.S. cotton is in good to excellent condition (up 1%). 96% of the crop is square, 74% has formed bolls, and 13% of those bolls have opened, all only slightly faster than usual.

79% of the rice is in good to excellent condition, 1% less than a week ago, 90% is ripe and 13% has been harvested, which is better than usual.

51% of sorghum is reported as good to excellent, an increase of 4%, with 73% in ear and 32% already in color, further advanced than in most years by mid-August.

As in the previous week, 35% of pastures and grazing areas in the USA are rated as good to excellent.
