World of Warcraft Classic: The 5 rarest battle pets

Highlights

  • Obtaining pets for the engineering profession in WoW Classic is a tough challenge and requires strong engineering skills and rare blueprints.
  • The drop chance of various Whelplings in WoW Classic is 0.05%, making them extremely rare and sought after by players.
  • The Hyacinth Macaw pet drop rate in WoW Classic is 0.01%, making it the rarest pet in the game and often commanding high prices.

World of Warcraft has been a major contender in the MMO genre for decades, and it doesn’t look like it’s going away anytime soon. In fact, it’s so popular that it’s been able to create a classic version of the game where players can relive previous expansions.

During the game, players can find various battle pets that they can use to fight against other players. Also, some of these pets are much rarer and more expensive than others (just like the rare mounts). Here are some of the rarest ones from the classic era (these include both World of Warcraft: Classics and the era 2004-2006 Wow).

There are countless mounts available in World of Warcraft, but some are much rarer than others.

5 Engineering profession pets

An absolute grind to get

WoW – Profession Pets

  • Obtained through the engineering profession

Profession pets are some of the hardest pets to obtain in the game. While some are easier to obtain than others, all require players to level up to get to the point where they can create the creatures. Although there are several professions in the game, the engineering profession is the only one that allows players to create battle pets.

What makes these pets so rare is that players must first be a high-level engineer or know someone who is (which is difficult, even in the Season of Discoveries Event). Then they need to find the blueprints for it, which can either be dropped randomly or come from certain quests. After that, they need to find all the required materials for the battle pets, which can be difficult. Finally, they are ready to receive their pet.

4 Various puppies

All variations have a drop chance of 0.05%

WoW – Crimson Whelpling

There are three different colored pups that you can bring in WoW-Classic: Crimson Whelpling, Dark Whelpling and Emerald Whelpling. The chance of these pets dropping is the same for each one. The Crimson Whelpling can be found with the Red Whelps in the Swamplands, the Dark Whelpling with the Black Whelps in the Wasteland and the Emerald Whelpling with the Green Whelps in the Swamp of Sorrows.

World of Warcraft: The 13 rarest mounts in Wrath of the Lich King and how to get them

The Wrath of the Lich King expansion added many mounts to World of Warcraft, and some of them are extremely difficult to obtain.

What makes these pets so rare is the fact that they only drop at a 0.05% chance, and each one only drops from certain colored pups in very specific areas. This means that players need to make sure they hunt the right pups in the right areas. These can be sold on the auction house, which also helps players obtain them.

3 Hyacinth Macaw

.01% chance of losing

WoW – Hyacinth Macaw

The Hyacinth Macaw was considered the rarest domestic animal World of Warcraft during the classic days, and it’s still pretty rare. To get this pet, players would need to camp in Stranglethorne Vale and kill anything that gets in their way. The pet can be dropped by any Bloodsail enemy in the area and can be sold on the auction house for a pretty high price.

The reason these pets are so rare is because they have a drop rate of just 0.01%. This is the lowest drop rate of any Classic Era pet, meaning this pet was the rarest to find. Players could spend weeks in Stranglethorne Vale and not find even a single one, making it a pet that many players could only dream of.

2 Classic WoW Collector’s Edition Pets

Still available at a very high price

WoW Collectors Edition Pets

  • Available via Collector’s Editions

This entry is technically three different pets in one. During the original era of Classic WoW, players could purchase the Collector’s Edition of the game, and just like the current Collector’s Editions, it included quite a few interesting extra items. Three of these items were the Zergling, Mini Diablo, and the Panda Cub. These interesting battle pets are pretty popular pets that players have wanted for some time.

World of Warcraft: The 18 rarest hunter pets available

Every race in World of Warcraft has a special hunter pet, but some are incredibly rare and difficult to find.

The main reason for the rarity of these pets is that they were only available to players who purchased the Collector’s Edition of the original game in 2004. They haven’t appeared anywhere since then, meaning players will have to buy one of these never-before-used editions of the game if they want to get the pets today. A quick search on eBay shows how unlikely it is to get one.

1 Poley

The Coca-Cola Bear on the Chinese mainland

WoW Classic - Poley

Poley is probably the rarest pet in World of Warcraft, Period. While this Polar Bear is the exact same model as the Baby Blizzard Bear that came out not long after that pet’s release, it’s a completely different pet for some pretty interesting reasons. First, it was only available through an iCoke promotion in mainland China, meaning very few people had a chance to get the pet. In fact, it was something that coincided with the release of Wow in China.

What sets this battle pet apart from all the others is the claim by players who own it that it sometimes sings or hums the Coca-Cola theme song. While this cannot be confirmed or denied due to the rarity of this battle pet, it would be pretty amazing if a polar bear followed a player around while singing the theme song. Even if this isn’t true, the fact that there is such an aura of mystery surrounding this pet makes it interesting. The fact that the pet was unavailable outside of mainland China and was only available to a select group makes it the rarest pet in the series.
