Miami Dolphins activate Jaelan Phillips from the PUP list

Miami Dolphins activate Jaelan Phillips from the PUP list

The Miami Dolphins’ training camp has been full of bad news so far. Edge rushers Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb began the new season on the physically unable to play list (PUP). Fellow edge rusher Shaquil Barrett surprised the team by retiring, leaving the Dolphins in even worse shape at that position. Backup offensive lineman Kion Smith was out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in the team’s first preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.

It’s been one blow after another lately, so it’s nice to see some good news for the Dolphins. Despite starting the season on the PUP list, the team has activated Phillips. This move is a great sign of the talented young runner’s recovery from a torn Achilles last season. Taking Phillips off the PUP list means he can officially practice with the team in preparation for their Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While fans will likely never see Phillips during the preseason as he recovers from his injury, his activation is a good sign heading into Week 1. We don’t yet know if Phillips will be active and ready to play for the opening game as that will become clearer as the preseason progresses. However, it is a great sign and gives Dolphins fans some hope that the pass rush will show some signs of life early in the season.
