14-year-old arrested for armed car theft

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – Officials with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) arrested a minor Saturday night who pointed a gun at a person before stealing their car.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, MCSO officers said they were flagged down by the victim in the Circle K parking lot on Oak Road. The victim told officers he had been the victim of a carjacking a few minutes earlier.

The victim told authorities that after he entered the store and returned to his car, someone pointed a gun at his chest and demanded he hand over his keys. The victim said he threw his keys in the driver’s seat and walked away while the car thief stole his blue 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe.

MCSO officers began searching for the vehicle after the victim reported the car thief fled east on Highway 326.

Approximately ten minutes after the carjacking was reported, officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Singleton complied with officers’ instructions and informed them of the presence of a handgun in the car.

Deputies said the victim positively identified Singleton as the person who threatened him with a firearm.

Singleton has previously been convicted of grand theft, assault on a police officer and criminal damage.

According to MCSO officials, Singleton admitted to the carjacking. He was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a person under 18, unauthorized display of a firearm, and auto theft with a firearm.

Singleton is facing charges in the juvenile justice system.
