Post Malone says fatherhood “changes your life in the best way ever”

Post Malone is grateful to be a father.

The 29-year-old singer spoke to correspondent Anthony Mason about his fatherhood in a new episode of “The Last Man.” CBS Sunday Morningand shared rare comments about his life as a father to his two-year-old daughter.

Malone, who did not reveal his daughter’s full name but has her initials “DDP” tattooed on his forehead, said that being a father is “life changing in the best way ever.” He also pointed out that his daughter and her mother were key figures in changing his life.

“Four years ago, I was on a difficult path. It was awful,” he admitted, telling Mason that he was struggling with “loneliness” at the time.

Now, Malone said, he doesn’t feel that way anymore. “That’s the most amazing thing,” he said.

Last month, PEOPLE exclusively presented the music video for his track “Yours” ahead of the release of his hotly anticipated F-1 billion Album, released on August 16th.

Malone told PEOPLE that the song, which was inspired by thoughts of his daughter’s future wedding (and will surely be included on many fans’ wedding playlists), was “very special to me.”

“I teased it on social media on Father’s Day and hope you all enjoy the full version,” Malone added.

Speaking directly to his daughter’s potential future partner in “Yours,” Malone reflects on how heartbreaking it will be for him “when I walk her down the aisle and do what fathers have to do.”

As the song continues, he notes that while she “wore white” at the altar, he remembers that “her first dress was pink.” Malone gives more brief insights into their connection, highlighting memories like the day she took her first steps and said her first word.

He goes on to explore the emotions every father experiences on his daughter’s wedding day, admitting, “She may be your better half / Yeah, but she’s my everything.”

All in all, “Yours” finds Malone coming to terms with the thought of allowing someone else to love his daughter, singing, “And we’ll both love her forever / But I loved her long before / And someday I know I’ll give her away / Buddy, that don’t mean she’s yours.”
