After countless duels with the best NBA scorer of all time, Steve Kerr was finally able to reap the fruits of his collaboration with LeBron James.

James, along with Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and a host of NBA superstars, spearheaded the U.S. team’s strong roster at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, and Kerr had the honor of coaching that team.

After the US national team secured the gold medal with a 98-87 victory over France at the Bercy Arena in Paris on Saturday, Kerr was asked by reporters about his experience as James’ coach.

“LeBron, what a blessing to finally coach him after so many years of coaching against him and trying to figure out how to beat him,” Kerr said. “I’ve said that over the last few weeks, watching him up close, just seeing his approach, his professionalism, how coachable he is and then of course how gifted he is at everything. He seems to have mastered every part of the game. I’m thrilled to get to coach him over the last six weeks, and I’m a lifelong LeBron fan.”

Kerr won’t be able to enjoy his newfound LeBron fan base for long before the Warriors begin the 2024-25 NBA season on October 23 or 24. James will then once again be a thorn in Golden State’s side when the team faces the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference.

But for now, Kerr is enjoying the shared experience with a long-time rival.
