Player 456 returns to the deadly game

There are three Years since the South Korean drama Squid Game captivated international audiences as fictional players competed against each other in classic childhood games of life and death. The Netflix series released a teaser on Monday introducing some of the next season’s main players. The teaser showed the numbered green tracksuits of the next round of contestants and shone a faint spotlight on player 456 (played by Lee Jung-jae), who took home the prize money in the season one finale.

In the second season, Player 456, or Gi-hun, gives up on the trip to the States and decides to return to the deadly game. An earlier synopsis reads: “Three years after his victory at Squid Game, Player 456 is still determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their cruel sport. Funding his search with this fortune, Gi-hun starts at the most obvious place: he looks for the man in the fancy suit who plays ddakji on the subway. But when his efforts finally bear fruit, the path to dismantling the organization proves deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he must re-enter.”

The drama is scheduled to return on December 26, with the third and final season scheduled to be released in 2025.

In Squid Game In season 2, Hwang Dong-hyuk will direct, while Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo will reprise their roles. New cast members include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri and Won Ji-an.

At the 2022 Emmys, the drama series received six Emmy Awards, including a trophy for June-jae, who became the first Asian actor to win Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for a non-English language performance. In his acceptance speech, Jung-jae expressed his gratitude for the honor.
