Disney’s “entirely new gaming and entertainment universe” with Epic/Fortnite is still “a few years away”

In February, The Walt Disney Company and Epic Games announced a brand new gaming and entertainment universe for Fortnite that will further expand the reach of popular Disney stories and experiences. In addition to the multi-year project, Disney will also invest $1.5 billion to acquire a stake in Epic Games. While we’ve already seen Disney and Epic work closely together on Fortnite, we’ll have to wait a little longer for their big collaboration.

In an official blog post from Disney, the company stated that their “new experience is still a few years away.” Unfortunately, Disney has not revealed any new details about this collaboration with Epic, but they have shared the following general description:

Imagine a place where all your favorite Disney characters and worlds come together in one connected universe – where you can watch, play, and even create your own adventures.

In addition to interoperability with Fortnite, the new persistent universe will offer consumers a variety of ways to play, watch, purchase and engage with content, characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and more. Players, gamers and fans can create their own stories and experiences, express their fandom in a distinctively Disney way and share content with each other in ways they love. All of this will be powered by the Unreal Engine.
