Carol Burnett says modern comedy can be “boring” and “not funny”

Carol Burnett makes fun of modern comedy.

While the legendary comedian was on air during the Golden Age of television with other popular shows such as “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “All in the Family,” she described how comedy has aged.

“They’re funny and character-driven, they’re not scatological or offensive,” she told Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast.

Carol Burnett reveals what she misses about the comedy: “I don’t think any broadcaster would take the risk.”

“I’m not a prude, but sometimes I think some of the stuff today… it’s quite easy to get a few laughs by being a bit mean. I don’t mind if it suits the character, but if they’re just doing it to say a bad word, I find it boring and not funny.”

The television icon further explained what her idea of comedy is.

“‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’ is funny. Mary, Bob Newhart, ‘All in the Family’ are funny – and they are still relevant today.”
