Planning exercise emphasizes emergency preparedness in Harrison County

WILSONBURG, W.Va. (WDTV) – Officials with the Harrison County Office of Emergency Management conducted a comprehensive pipeline emergency response and planning exercise with Antero Midstream in Wilsonburg last week.

During the exercise, Antero and the county practiced communicating and coordinating with each other in the event of an emergency and demonstrated strict safety protocols, rapid response times and alerts to the public, officials said.

Antero conducts these drills regularly at its operations, but this was the first time they did so with Harrison County. Officials said they plan to conduct more in the future to cover a range of emergency scenarios.

“Supporting the safety and well-being of our employees and residents in the regions in which we operate is an essential part of our business,” said Paul Sandy, Director of Midstream Operations at Antero Midstream. “These exercises not only demonstrate our commitment to maintaining this standard, but also give our team the opportunity to improve our efficiency in the event of a safety emergency.”

According to officials, the county’s role in the exercise was to support response and recovery during the emergency situation. Together with Antero, they demonstrated their ability to successfully handle a potential emergency.

“In emergency situations, preparation is critical to ensure the safety of those around you,” said Pegi Bailey, Harrison County Emergency Management Director. “Our response teams, along with Antero, demonstrated exemplary leadership during these exercises, and we look forward to continuing to evolve our response plans to make Harrison County a safe place to live and work.”
