Video: Pinellas County officials smash window to rescue dog from hot car while owners are at courthouse

The owners of a dog are accused of animal cruelty after officers rescued the animal from a hot car earlier this month.

A bodycam video shows Pinellas County officials breaking the window of a vehicle in front of the courthouse to free a dog trapped inside.

Deputies said they were at the courthouse when a concerned citizen approached them and told them there was a dog in a hot car.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the temperature outside that day was 31 degrees and investigators determined that the dog was left in the car for about 30 to 45 minutes, causing the temperature inside the car to be about 49 degrees.

Officers said the dog was “panting heavily and visibly in distress” when the car was locked and the windows rolled up.

Officers gave the dog water and took him to animal control, where he was found to be fine.

The dog’s owners were found in a nearby courtroom and charged with animal cruelty.

In a social media post, PCSO stated: “It’s not okay for you, it’s not okay for them. Never leave a pet or child in a car.”
