Malik Naber’s injury: Star rookie “day by day”

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers appears to have escaped serious injury after leaving the team’s practice early Sunday. Giants coach Brian Daboll said Monday that Nabers will be evaluated “day by day” because of a sprained left ankle.

Nabers, the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been a star of the Giants’ training camp. He limped off the field late in Sunday’s practice but did not immediately go to the team’s facility to have his ankle examined. He even made himself available for an interview with Kay Adams after practice.

Nabers will not practice Monday. Daboll said the Giants do not believe he has a broken ankle and he will practice “whenever he is ready.”

Daboll said the injury was in the air and not caused by a defender.

Nabers dominated two joint practices with the Detroit Lions last week, catching all but one pass thrown his way over the two days. Nabers played in the season opener on Thursday but was not targeted in 12 snaps.
