MARGATE – Does your rubber ducky have what it takes to win Atlantic County’s “totally uncouth” contest?

The 4th Annual Margate Duck Derby will take place on Sunday, August 25th from 11am-1pm where one lucky duckling will be crowned champion in this “Duck-a-Palooza.”
The duck race, held at Amherst Avenue and the Bay at Washington Avenue, is sponsored by Margate Gardens Wine and Spirits.

How to get tickets

Participants ages 21 and older may purchase raffle tickets ($5 for one, $20 for five) for the floating Quack Festival in advance.

Tickets can be purchased at Thrilling Thursdays’ Movies on the Beach, the Margate Farmers Market on Thursdays, Steve and Cookie’s, or Margate Gardens, 9710 Ventnor Avenue.

Ticket sales end on Thursday, August 22nd at 8pm. No tickets will be available on the day of the event.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Margate Business Association’s community programs.

Event day

Each raffle ticket purchased has a corresponding number on a weighted rubber duck.

The ducks are released into the bay on a closed course between Scott’s Dock and the Washington Avenue Pier. Kayakers and boats guide the ducks, making sure no duck escapes. Using the current and bay breeze, the ducks head toward a funnel-shaped finish line.

Duck owners are not allowed to interact with the rubber ducks, but they can certainly cheer them on and watch the race from the pier on Washington Ave. The rubber ducks will be scooped out of the water by the kayakers at the end of the derby.

But it’s not just adults who get their money’s worth. Children can also try their luck at Duck Chuck, Quack in the Hole, Fishin’ for Fowl and other great activities with prizes.

A US DJ will provide the musical entertainment and will also host a chicken dance competition. The best dancer will also win a prize.

The Margate Business Association is hosting the duck race and the top three ducks will receive Visa gift cards. 1st place will receive $1,000, 2nd place will receive $500 and 3rd place will receive $250.
