As IGN can exclusively reveal, Boss Team Games is developing two new games based on the 1978 horror classic Halloween.

Although details are scarce, both games are apparently being developed in collaboration with the producers of the Halloween series. Additionally, one of the games is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and includes input from original director John Carpenter.

“As an avid gamer myself, I’m thrilled to bring Michael Myers back to life in this game and hope to scare the crap out of you,” said Carpenter, who will be “closely involved in the development of the new project.”

According to the official press release, the games will allow players to “relive moments from the film and take on the role of classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.” The two new games are being developed in collaboration with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, with the Unreal Engine 5 project still in early development.

Although Halloween is now over 45 years old, there have been very few video games based on the legendary slasher franchise. The closest game to an actual adaptation of the series is 1983’s Halloween on the Atari 2600, in which you play as a babysitter – presumably Laurie Strode – trying to find a safe room while being chased by Michael Myers. The Shape is also one of the many villains who appear in Dead by Daylight, Behavior Interactive’s popular multiplayer horror game.

Boss Team Games, for its part, returns to the horror genre after previously working on Evil Dead: The Game. In our review, we wrote: “Evil Dead: The Game is a fantastic asymmetrical multiplayer game that, like its source material, is much better than it has any right to be, given its frustrating lack of polish and somewhat paltry maps and modes.”

“Everyone at Boss Team Games is a huge horror fan and Halloween “Obviously has a special place in the hearts of all horror fans,” said Steve Harris, CEO of Boss Team Games. “Being able to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is excited and honored to be able to work with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience that fans of the film and video games will love.”

There is no release date yet for any of the Halloween projects. For more information, check out our list of the best horror video games for PC.
