Minka Kelly’s new film “Blackwater Lane,” based on the 2017 novel “The Breakdown,” hits theaters on June 21
Minka Kelly experiences spooky paranormal events in her latest film.
On May 15, Lionsgate released the trailer for the horror film Blackwater Trail exclusively at PEOPLE. Kelly, 43, plays Cass, who becomes increasingly disturbed after a spooky encounter in the night.
Her husband (played by Dermot Mulroney) attributes the experience to an active imagination. Meanwhile, a visitor to the couple’s house suggests that the place is haunted.
Eventually, as the trailer shows, a woman is found dead on a road near Cass’s house and she begins to see dead animals in her yard. Mulroney’s character worries that the drugs Cass is taking are causing her to hallucinate, and she seems to begin to doubt her own interpretation of reality as the supernatural forces surrounding her close in.

“After witnessing a tragedy on a dangerous country road, Cass is haunted by a ghostly apparition and begins to question her sanity,” a synopsis reads. “As these supernatural experiences intensify, Cass finds herself pushed ever closer to the edge until she begins to put together the pieces of a gruesome conspiracy against her.”

Paris made her breakthrough with her 2016 novel Behind closed doors and has since published six more novels, including the basis for the upcoming film. The author’s website states that both Behind closed doors and another novel by her, The therapistare in preparation as feature film adaptations by Elizabeth Fowler, a producer of Blackwater Trail.
