Will Netflix adapt the sequels to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder? That’s what author Holly Jackson thinks

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder topped the Netflix charts this month, and we can’t help but think that some of the millions of views it’s garnered are from fans of the book series it’s based on. Recently, author Holly Jackson was at MCM Comic Con in London to talk about the other two books in the AGGGTM series, and in particular, answer the question of whether Netflix will adapt them.

“I would love to do the whole series (…) if we could,” says Jackson, “which means I have to rely on you watching the show in one go when it comes out. I want you to watch it on day one and day two – and not sleep that week.”

Well, “not sleeping” is a bit extreme, but you have to admit that at least a significant number of fans did exactly what Jackson told them to do. According to Netflix’s own figures, the show garnered around 7.4 million views (!) in its first week, with a total of 34 million hours watched (twice as much!). While I’m no detective like the show’s main character, I’d say the clues point to a good chance of a renewal.

But what exactly are the sequels to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder? The first, Good Girl, Bad Blood, was released in 2020 and follows on from the first story, with main character Pip Fitz-Amobi creating a true crime podcast. Then in 2021, As Good As Dead was released, in which a stalker tests Pip’s detective skills like never before.

Oh, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t talk a little about Holly Jackson’s Kill Joy, a novella that serves as a prequel to the original Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Perhaps we’ll see the day when Netflix uses this shorter work as inspiration for a prequel season of the series, or maybe even a series of its own.

I mean, House of the Dragon squeezes four seasons out of a single book – why can’t Netflix squeeze one out of a novella?
