China’s Mingyang Smart Energy has confirmed that OceanX – the world’s largest single-capacity floating wind platform – has departed from Guangzhou for the Qingzhou IV offshore wind farm in Yangjiang, Guangdong province.
The company said towing the OceanX on its 191 nautical mile journey to the offshore wind farm would take approximately 72 hours. It departed Guangzhou on August 11, 2024.
Two 8.3 MW MySE8.3-180 turbines with a total capacity of 16.6 MW are installed on the floating twin-rotor OceanX.
The V-shaped OceanX platform was recently launched from Guangzhou and is designed to optimize wind capture and efficiency in deep water.
Constructed from high performance concrete, the Floater is a cable-stayed system designed for improved structural efficiency and adaptability.
It is a single-point anchoring system that, according to Mingyang Smart Energy, is designed “to ensure maximum stability and safety even in extreme typhoon conditions.”
