Tom Cruise surprises at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games with a spectacular jump from the Stade de France and his arrival by parachute at the Hollywood Sign, officially handing over the games to LA

Hollywood star Tom Cruise was the focus of the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris on Sunday.

What happened: Cruise, known for his daredevil stunts in the series “Mission: Impossible,” has taken his thrill-seeking to a new level. The 62-year-old actor performed a death-defying jump from the roof of the Stade de France, CNN reported.

After landing on the floor of the arena, Cruise, in a symbolic gesture, took the Olympic flag, attached it to a motorcycle and rode unharmed through a crowd of athletes out of the stadium.

In a pre-recorded segment, he was then seen driving through Paris before boarding a plane that magically took him to Los Angeles, where he appeared at the Hollywood sign, with the Olympic rings replacing the double “o”s in the word “Hollywood.”

His appearance was part of the handover to Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Games.

Why it is important: The 2024 Summer Olympics have been the scene of many remarkable events and stories. Among them: Bill Gates‘ Son-in-law, Nayel Nassarwithdrew from the competition because the safety of his horse was more important to him than his lifelong dream of winning a gold medal.

Simone Bileswas criticized by JD Vance After taking a break for mental health reasons in 2020, she made a triumphant comeback by winning three gold medals and one silver medal, setting new records for her team.

Meanwhile, the Olympics were reportedly the target of a Russian influence campaign that sought to discredit the event and weaken Western support for Ukraine by using a fake documentary featuring Cruise’s synthesized voice.

Cruise’s attendance at the closing ceremony comes after the last “Mission: Impossible” installment, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” underperformed at the box office and raised concerns about Hollywood’s reliance on outdated franchises.
