Ontario County woman rescued after falling into well on her property – Finger Lakes Daily News

An 84-year-old Ontario County woman was rescued by firefighters after she fell about 25 to 30 feet into a well on her property on Sunday.

The unidentified homeowner was searching for a lost pet on her property on Larue Road in Manchester when she became trapped in the well shortly before 4 a.m. According to a report from the City of Canandaigua Fire Department, Clifton Springs firefighters were the first to arrive on the scene and informed city units that a conscious, injured woman was trapped in the well and the edges of the well had collapsed on the victim. She was also standing in three to four feet of water. With the updated information, the technical rescue chief requested Monroe County Special Operations Units and the Rochester Fire Department Technical Rescue Team to respond and assist in shoring up the well and other rescue efforts if needed.

Canandaigua Firefighters arrived on scene and prepared for a confined space rescue. They initiated atmospheric monitoring and positive pressure ventilation. With the assistance of Professional firefighters and drivers from Fishers IAFF Local 4907 and the Clifton Springs Fire Department, a rope rescue system was set up to send a rescuer into the well and recover the victim. Rescue efforts were initiated by sending a Canandaigua rescue technician into the well. The victim was rescued and turned over to Finger Lakes Emergency Services.

Canandaigua firefighters thanked all agencies for the smooth and efficient rescue, including the Clifton Springs Fire Department, Fishers Fire Department, Monroe County Fire Department, Rochester Fire Department, Rochester Fire Fighters Local 1071, Ontario County Rope Rescue Team, Finger Lakes Emergency Services, Ontario County 911 dispatch centers and Ontario County Emergency Management Agency.

Canandaigua firefighters are New York State Confined Space Rescue personnel. One of the rescuers on the scene in Canandaigua today is an International Technical Rescue Association (ITRA) Level 3 Advanced Confined Space Technician. New York State Professional Firefighters Association – NYSPFFA

Clifton Springs, Canandaigua and Fishers fire departments prepared their rope rescue equipment before entering the well and rescuing the woman. She had visible minor injuries and was transported by Finger Lakes Ambulance to Thompson Hospital for treatment.

The Ontario County Rope Rescue Team, Monroe County Fire Bureau Special Forces and the City of Rochester Fire Department also assisted on scene.
