Wesley Snipes, who made a surprise appearance as Blade/Eric Brooks in the new film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” has set two Guinness World Records.
The 62-year-old actor, who first portrayed the iconic half-vampire character in 1998’s Blade, set the record for the “longest career as a live-action Marvel character” with a span of 25 years and 340 days.
Wesley Snipes has also taken over Hugh Jackman’s previous record for his portrayal of Wolverine since “X-Men” in 2000.
When the news became known, Snipes humorously responded on Instagram: “Wuuuuus?! Really? Do I get a certificate too?”
He further expressed his gratitude, writing: “Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness… Thank you @guinnessworldrecords, I’m your fan!”
Snipes initially had reservations about reprising his role in “Blade.”
“I didn’t think he could do it,” he told Entertainment Weekly, referring to Ryan Reynolds’ suggestion for a cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
In the film, Blade teams up with the title characters as well as Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Gambit (Channing Tatum) and X-23 (Dafne Keen) to defeat the antagonist Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin).
Snipes’ second Guinness World Record award is for the “longest gap between appearances of a character in a Marvel film.” It is 19 years and 231 days since he last donned the garb of a vampire hunter in 2004’s “Blade: Trinity.”
The actor’s return as Blade not only resonated with longtime fans, but also cemented his legacy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
