The Lincoln County Fair event ends with a new element

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Sunday’s final day of the Lincoln County Fair ended with a bang: the Demolition Derby. This year, a new element was added: the Demo Derby for Kids.

In the afternoon, the adults were able to demonstrate how cars crash into each other. Before that, however, the children had the opportunity to demonstrate their own skills in the demolition derby.

“The kids can bring their little quads and we attach balloons to each end and when those balloons pop, they’re done,” said Cindi Christiansen, director of the Lincoln County Fair.

About 10 kids participated in the event with quads ranging from fire trucks to tractors to Barbie cars. While the derby was one of the most notable events of the final day, activities and barns were still open and available.

“We have all the animal exhibits for them to view, all the junior and open exhibits set up in the exhibit center throughout the week,” Christiansen said.

Around 400 exhibitors came to the stables to show off their animals. Christiansen says her favorite part of the show was being able to see all the exhibitors in the stables and at the demonstrations.

“I see most of them once a year. I see these (children) grow into amazing adults,” she said.

Some of the former youth exhibitors have now even taken on leadership positions with Christiansen and her team. Some have even achieved the title of department head.

“It was wonderful. I just love watching the kids grow,” Christiansen said.

The trade fair management announced that planning for next year’s event is already underway.
