Teoscar Hernández delivers the game-winning hit in the 10th inning as the Dodgers defeat the Pirates

LOS ANGELES — Teoscar Hernández scored three runs, including a game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning, to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 6-5 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday, handing the Pirates their seventh consecutive loss this season.

The Dodgers got an RBI double in the 10th inning from Kiké Hernández, who scored on a single from Teoscar Hernández. Kiké Hernández had three hits. Right-hander Evan Phillips (3-0) allowed an unearned run in the 10th inning but ended up getting the win.

Bryan Reynolds gave the Pirates a 5-4 lead in the 10th inning with an RBI single to center with one out.

Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings against his former team. Pittsburgh drafted Glasnow in the fifth round in 2011 and brought him to the major leagues in 2016 before trading him to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018.

The Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen hit two home runs in his return to the starting batting position after missing the last three games with knee problems. Left-hander Bailey Falter allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings in his first career start at Dodger Stadium.

Pirates right-hander David Bednar (3-5) suffered a loss in his second inning. Bednar has allowed runs in five straight games and has one loss and two blown saves in his last three games.

After hitting a two-run home run against Glasnow in the third inning, McCutchen tied the game 4-4 with a two-run shot against Dodger left-hander Anthony Banda in the eighth inning.

The Dodgers scored for the third time in the series in the opening inning. Freddie Freeman hit a double with two outs and Will Smith followed with his own double for a run. Amed Rosario made it 2-0 with a single to left.

Los Angeles scored two more runs in the second inning on a two-out double to left field by Teoscar Hernández.

After Glasnow retired the Pirates’ first seven batters of the game, Ji Hwan Bae hit a double with one out in the third inning before McCutchen hit a two-run home run off the right-field wall, extending his hitting streak to a season-high eight games.

McCutchen’s tying home run, his 16th of the season, came after an infield single by Michael A. Taylor.

TRAINING ROOM

Dodgers: Rookie RHP River Ryan is out for the rest of the season after suffering an elbow injury Saturday against the Pirates. He is being considered for Tommy John surgery. Ryan went 1-0 with a 1.33 ERA in his first four major league games. RHP Landon Knack (2-2, 3.07 ERA) took his place on the roster. … 3B Max Muncy and OF Tommy Edman returned healthy from a rehab game Saturday and are both on track to make the major league roster when the club opens its home opener Aug. 19-29. … LHP Alex Vesia has pitched despite knee discomfort and has a 6.75 ERA in his last seven games, according to manager Dave Roberts.

Pirates: The club has not yet decided who will be in the starting lineup for the opening game of a three-game series on Monday in San Diego.

Dodgers: LHP Clayton Kershaw (0-2, 4.38 ERA) will make his fourth start of the season on Monday in the opener of a four-game series in Milwaukee.
