The 2027-28 Clipper Race may seem a long way off for many, but planning such an adventure takes time. The Clipper Race offers comprehensive training to turn absolute beginners into capable sailors, ensuring that no matter where you start, you are prepared for the challenges of racing across the oceans.

Jo Hulton from New Zealand sailed around the world in the 2023-24 edition on board Qingdao. She said about her experience at the Clipper Race:

“It’s life changing. The sailing itself is incredible. I was a novice sailor myself when I started racing and the crew looked after me, kept me going, kept me safe and they will stay in my heart forever!”

With a crew from all walks of life, you sign up for the adventure of a lifetime, with different motivations. Jessica Morgan from the USA, who also sailed around the world, PSP Logistics of this latest edition of the race: “As we slowly sailed around the world at 6.6 knots, there was plenty of time to discuss the deep and meaningful reasons why each of the crew members boarded the Clipper 70s for our little global adventure. For some, it is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, for others, the overcoming of a devastating personal tragedy. I’m afraid my motivation was nowhere near as strong. It’s just that I’d never sailed around the world before and thought I’d give it a go. Mission accomplished.”

Over 450 crew members are already in training and preparing for the 2025-26 edition. Training for the 2027-28 edition is scheduled to begin next year, with the first group of Level 1 training courses expected to start in September 2025.

The Clipper Race is more than just a sailing event. Chris Harris, Race Crew Recruitment Director, who sailed in the 2015-16 edition, knows this first-hand. He says:

“Participating in the Clipper Race can literally be life-changing. For years I kept seeing adverts saying ‘no previous sailing experience required’ and couldn’t believe it until I attended a presentation and met the crew who had previously participated.

“I was a complete novice and have now covered thousands of nautical miles and visited places I’d never been before. I’ve even had the privilege of crossing the equator under sail and officially becoming a Shellback! The reception we received during the stops in Asia will stay with me forever. Crowds lined the river to welcome us. The sailing was fantastic and incredibly varied but the most rewarding (and challenging) aspect was learning to live on board with around 20 other people who share your dream. The camaraderie you feel when taking on such a challenge is simply unparalleled and it’s no wonder the crew talk about being part of a Clipper Race family.”
