It has long been suspected that second overall pick and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels would clearly be the best quarterback on the Washington Commanders offense. That seems to be true, as the team left little doubt about who would be playing quarterback in Week 1 when they lined up their superstar rookie as the starting quarterback ahead of veteran Marcus Mariota.

While these first official lineups are mostly just placeholders, it’s clear the Commanders wanted to send a message to the team, their fans and Daniels himself. Washington clearly has confidence in its rookie signal-caller to handle this offense, given what he’s shown in his final year of college and so far in training camp. Don’t expect the top of the lineup to change anytime soon.

Daniels will be showing off his moves in the first week of the preseason and showing everyone why he was “heralded” as a starter so quickly. Daniels has a chance to really turn around an offensive unit that has struggled for nearly a decade, and there should be plenty of excitement when he takes the field for the first time this Saturday.
