On the second day of the “Reverb” Phillips Backyard Music Festival in August, in keeping with the day’s motto, a surprising number of people were wearing tracksuits.
On top of that, the lineup for the day was absolutely incredible: one of the best rap lyricists was the headliner of the show and there were countless opening acts that were no slouches themselves.
The day started with local Victorian TK The Artist on the main stage. TK was behind the drums and had a talented band with him, complete with a lovely, sultry saxophonist.
TK and his band were beaming from ear to ear throughout the entire show and everyone present noticed that they were on cloud nine the entire show.
Next came “Jungle Bobby,” one of the most energetic and entertaining backyard shows ever.
Bobby had the crowd sing about their love for one another and emphasized to newcomers that this was “not a cult.”
He was accompanied by two background dancers who immediately got the crowd up and dancing, as well as his best friend Dan who DJed throughout the set.

Next up were the local heroes Astrocolor, who created a great atmosphere with entertaining dance music and a chest full of tambourines.
They played both old and new songs, bringing a fun 80’s dance party vibe. They had saxophone, lots of sequins, cowbells and showed everyone in attendance why they are pillars of the music scene here in Victoria.
Cautious Clay was next to take the stage and although some of those in attendance may not have known him before the festival, he delivered one of the best performances of the day and his music will surely be on many Victorians’ playlists after this weekend.
This talented singer also plays flute, saxophone and guitar and has made sure everyone knows it. Keep an eye on Cautious Clay because he is sure to blow up soon.
Last on stage was the unique Earl Sweatshirt. He has made a name for himself with his style of avant-garde, abstract hip hop.
Earl Sweatshirt, now considered one of the best rap lyricists of all time, delivered a show that no one will soon forget.
