Brewers’ DL Hall is off the injured list for the first time since April and will start Sunday against the Reds

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers left-hander DL Hall was activated in time for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds after spending nearly four months on the injured list.

Hall posted a 0-1 record and a 7.71 ERA in just four appearances for Milwaukee before injuring his left knee on a bunt on April 20. He was placed on the injured list the next day.

The Brewers acquired Hall along with third baseman Joey Ortiz and a competitive 2024 balance pick as part of the trade that sent 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles.

“He was a key pitcher in the playoffs last year for the Orioles,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “We knew what kind of throwing arm he had and we knew what potential he had, so we were really excited. It was difficult to let him go through that adversity.”

Hall, who turns 26 on September 19, suffered several setbacks in his recovery that delayed his return.

His knee injury worsened during a rehab appearance in May, and then a line drive bounced off his left forearm while pitching to Triple-A Nashville last month.

Now he’s back and brings plenty of versatility, being able to serve as both a starter and relief pitcher. He pitched 31 1/3 innings in 12 starts for Nashville this year, going 0-1 with a 2.87 ERA.

Hall was 3-0 with a 3.26 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings in 18 relief appearances for Baltimore last season. He struck out six batters in 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief in the Orioles’ AL Division Series loss to Texas.

Murphy also noted that Hall still has minor league options, which could come in handy as the NL Central-leading Brewers assemble their pitching staff if relievers Bryan Hudson and Trevor Megill are eventually activated from the injured list. Hudson last pitched for Milwaukee on July 23 and appears close to returning from a left oblique injury.

In other changes on Sunday, the Brewers placed left-hander Hoby Milner on the 15-day injured list and right-hander Enoli Paredes on the 60-day injured list because of a left shoulder injury. Milner’s move is retroactive to Friday.
