The new World of Warcraft skins for Diablo 4 are great, but very expensive

I thought we’d get more and more IP crossovers from Blizzard with Diablo 4 as time went on, and now we have probably our biggest one yet for the game, a series of five skins, one for each class, taken directly from World of Warcraft.

The five skins currently in the shop are:

Barbarian Set – Varian Wrynn

Druid Set – Xavius

Necromancer Set – Xal’atath

Wizard Set – Kael’thas

Villain Set – You guessed it, Sylvanas

There is also the Celestial Horse from WoW as a mount.

It’s actually quite interesting because even though the sets are made for specific WoW characters, they have to work for both genders. So if you’ve always wanted to be the male Sylvanas or the female Varian Wrynn, now’s your chance. They’re really, really well made. They look amazing.

So what’s the catch? I mean, you know the catch, right?

The skins are hugely expensive, like most of the dozens and dozens we see in the Diablo store. But these are definitely the most expensive. Each skin costs 2,800 platinum, or $25. Thankfully, they don’t force you to buy a more expensive pack, although they do with the 2,500 platinum horse, which would still cost $25.

I’ve long been frustrated that Diablo 4 shoves so many incredible cosmetic items into the store at ridiculous prices, considering how much fun many players have earning cosmetic items in games like this, and you can’t earn practically any. At least a few good ones. What’s particularly annoying is that when the game launched, they openly boasted that the in-game sets would be just as cool as the paid sets. That was true at launch, but immediately with the launch of seasons, the paid skins got much better and the free skins practically ceased to exist at all. Each season there’s a usually laughably bad set of all-class armor you can earn for free, but that’s about it, aside from very, very few non-horse-related cosmetic items in the main game and only a few new item additions that you can actually transmogrify.

But nothing changes. The skin prices haven’t gone down and they’re all still mostly awesome. It makes me sad that I would have to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars every season to get them. But they do it for a reason and I think it works for them. Anyway, I… might still buy those Sylvanas and Xal’atath sets…
