Police investigate shooting at Burlington skate park

BURLINGTON, Vermont (WCAX) – Police say they are investigating a shooting that occurred overnight at the Andy A_Dog Skatepark on Burlington’s waterfront.

At around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, Burlington Police received a call from the University of Vermont Medical Center that a man had been admitted to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Officers interviewed the victim, who they identified as a 17-year-old youth from Utica, New York, and three other witnesses at UVMMC. Police say none of those people gave a credible account of what happened. They also say they recovered ballistics evidence from the skate park.

Burlington police say the victim was with another man from New York and two men from Vermont. One of the Vermont men has been linked to previous shootings in Burlington, they say.

The hospital treated and released the 17-year-old for a non-life-threatening upper body injury. Police said they took him into custody as a runaway from another state and are awaiting action from the Vermont Department for Children and Families and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
