“I didn’t ask for it”: Samuel L. Jackson’s lightsaber in Star Wars is not only special because of its purple color, but also as a homage to Pulp Fiction

Samuel L. Jackson’s performance as Mace Windu in the Star Wars saga was something very special because the actor was able to convince George Lucas to allow him to play a purple lightsaber. A very iconic color that has always been associated with the Jedi Master, but the curious thing is that his sword has more than one peculiarity.

While speaking to The Graham Norton Show in 2013, Jackson revealed that the original name he used on set carried a Pulp Fiction-inspired message. Specifically, “BMF,” which stands for “Bad MotherFucker,” referring to the phrase that appears on his character’s wallet in Quentin Tarantino’s film.

A few years later, during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor went into more detail about the story and revealed that he had not asked for this detail. No, they did it because they loved me.“I didn’t ask for it. When filming was over and I got it, the power button said ‘BMF,'” Jackson said, showing a picture of it, which you can see at minute 6:52 of the video below.

Obviously, Mace Windu’s lightsaber, which we can buy in the store, does not carry the “BMF”, which makes Samuel L. Jackson’s device unique. The film crew of star Wars wanted to pay him a little tribute and the truth is, it turned out great.
