OSBI to investigate Grady County Commissioners’ alleged violation of public meetings

OSBI to investigate Grady County Commissioners’ alleged violation of public meetings

GRADY CO., Okla. (KSWO) – The Grady County District Attorney’s Office has requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation in investigating misconduct between 2nd District Commissioner Kirk Painter and 3rd District Commissioner Gary Bray.

This followed a meeting of the county commissioners on June 24, where the allocation of the road budget was an agenda item.

“Point 11. Discussion and possible measures for the distribution of road funds for districts 1, 2 and 3.”

In a video posted online and according to meeting minutes, District 1 Commissioner Zachary Davis claimed that Painter and Bray met outside the courthouse to discuss district matters.

“They both constantly make fun of the open meeting,” Davis said. “There have been many instances since January where it’s obvious that these agenda items were rehearsed. That’s dangerous. There are two county commissioners making decisions for the entire county behind closed doors, and I’m done for.”

Both Painter and Bray denied the allegations, but according to the recording and transcript, Assistant District Attorney Charles Sifers said there was enough evidence to launch an investigation.

After receiving a tip about the matter, 7News reached out to OSBI officials, who said, “We have been asked by the Attorney General’s Office to investigate possible misconduct. The investigation is ongoing. We have no further information at this time.”
