When Diablo4 Launched in June 2023, it received consistently positive reviews. However, in the months following its successful release, opinions on Diablo4 started to sour in the gaming community due to its lackluster seasonal content updates and aggressive monetization. Recently, however, Diablo4 has begun to improve its reputation thanks to the release of Season 4 in May 2024, which completely overhauled the game’s often-criticized inventory and loot progression. Despite this, the action RPG has yet to regain the popularity it had at launch, but Blizzard’s upcoming expansion for Diablo4with the title Vessel of hate, could really bring a lot of players back to the game.

As the first major story DLC for Blizzard’s successful action RPG Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred adds a wealth of new content to the game. This includes an entirely new jungle area called Nahantu, a treacherous realm filled to the brim with dangerous, grotesque insects, corrupt forces, and other hostile enemies. As exciting as the expansion seems based on what has been reported about it so far, it’s still hard to say whether it will live up to expectations. However, Blizzard has already revealed one aspect of Vessel of hate so far, and that is its release date of October 8, 2024. Given its horror-inspired setting and characters, Diablo4The upcoming expansion seems to be the perfect game for Halloween.

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred is the perfect expansion for the Halloween season

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred has a dark conspiracy

Vessel of Hate continues the narrative of the base game and mainly revolves around the scholar Neyrelle and the all-powerful demon Mephisto, Lord of Hatred. After being tasked with finding them, players must deal with the corrupting influence of hatred spreading throughout the Nahantu region and the rest of Sanctuary. This eerie setting not only fits perfectly with the Diablo franchise, but also the spooky season.

Vessel of Hatred does not have many direct competitors in October

Until now, There are surprisingly few horror games scheduled to be released close to Halloween. Currently, the only AAA horror game scheduled to be released in October is Bloober Team Silent Hill 2 Remake, which is set to be released exclusively for PS5/PC on October 8. In addition, the cooperative action horror game No more room in hell 2 will be released on Steam Early Access on the same day as Halloween, October 31st. There are a few other heavyweights coming out this month, like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Sonic X Shadow Generations, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Dragon Ball: Spark ZeroAnd Life is strange: double exposurebut none of them really fall into the horror game genre, so they don’t exactly fill the same niche as these two aforementioned titles.

Even if it is not scary in the traditional sense, Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred is the only other horror title scheduled to be released in October. One of its competitors, the Silent Hill 2 Remake, could steal some of the attention from Vessel of Hateas they both release on the same day. That being said, however, Blizzard’s upcoming expansion won’t have too much competition and will serve as a flagship release for the Microsoft-owned developer during the holiday season. While it’s unfortunate, as mentioned, that October doesn’t see more horror games launching, the lack of major releases in the genre will benefit Vessel of Hate and give the eagerly awaited Diablo4 Expansion, more space to stand out.
