The city of Charleston hosts the First Day Festival on Sunday afternoon

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – The Holy City plans to host its 21st annual First Day Festival as scheduled on Sunday, but with one difference.

The South Carolina Aquarium will not be able to open for free during the festival this year due to preparations being made for Tropical Storm Debby. As a result, all activities for this year’s festival will take place at the Charleston Gaillard Center.

The event, which runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., is designed to help children prepare for their first day of school. Students can pick up a pre-made bag of school supplies.

Families have the opportunity to visit community organizations and facilities to learn about community resources and services.

Children must be present to receive a bag and each child will receive a bag.

Parking remains free in the Gaillard and Aquarium garages.

The first day of school for Charleston County students is Tuesday.

Flooding from Debby caused delays on the first day of school in Berkeley and Dorchester counties.

Dorchester District 2 begins classes on Tuesday. Dorchester District 4 welcomes students back on Wednesday. Berkeley County students begin school on Thursday.
