Furiosa’s epic running time sets a new record for the Mad Max series

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has confirmed its epic running time – a new record for the franchise.

The upcoming film, released later this month, is a prequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road and focuses on the younger incarnation of Imperator Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy).

It is now clear that the new film will be significantly longer at 148 minutes than the 120 minutes of its predecessor.

This will make Furiosa the longest installment in the Mad Max series, far ahead of Mad Max from 1979, Mad Max 2 from 1981 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome from 1985.

Before the release of Furiosa, the film received rave reviews on social media, with IndieWire’s David Ehrlich calling it “really, really damn good.”

Erik Davis of Fandango described the film as a “wild and relentlessly fast-paced epic,” while Josh Horowitz called the film “uniquely gnarly and, yes, epic.”

Meanwhile, director George Miller has confirmed that “Furiosa” will feature a cameo appearance by Mad Max himself, Max Rockatansky.

“In preparing for ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ we also wrote about what happened to Max in the year before we met (in this film),” he told Entertainment Weekly.

“And as we got closer to the end of the film, the chronology… Basically, we had to realize that Mad Max was lurking somewhere because we knew what had happened.”

He added: “The writers know what happened with Mad Max the year before, and we have a whole story about it that I would love to do if I ever get the chance.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be released on May 24th.
