“It was awful. It was probably more down to me and my insecurity because I knew I couldn’t fit into the same size jeans anymore, but it wasn’t a time when actresses were bigger than a size 38 (UK),” she recalled to The Independent“And in the previous film I was a size 14, and now I was a size 16. So that was horrible. It was a really uncomfortable experience.”

Cave said she felt “definitely invisible” after gaining weight, despite her previous success after filming her first Harry Potter Film.

“And since then I’ve had weird issues with my weight and my work. It sucks, but that’s the way it is. Women have to deal with it all the time,” she explained.

Cave continued: “Acting is the most toxic relationship. If you’re not good, you just get rejected. It’s like you go on a million first dates that all go great and then you never hear from them again. It’s like you get ghosted a thousand times a year and it kind of drives you crazy.”

“In my early 20s, I was definitely freaking out and thinking, ‘But they said they liked me and I’d be perfect for this?’ But then you realize there are 100 other girls who are just as good as you, if not better, maybe prettier, maybe skinnier, and they’re perfect for this,” she recalls.

Since her Harry Potter In recent days, Cave has focused less on acting, instead turning to comedy and writing. In some ways, Cave credits those body image issues on set as the driving force that led her to her true passion.

“If I had stayed thin – unnaturally thin, unhappily thin – I probably would have gotten more acting roles and then I wouldn’t have started writing. And then I don’t know who I would be now, because writing is who I am,” she said. “I’m almost grateful that I gained so much weight.”
