Meagan Good’s friends warned her not to date Jonathan Majors.
The 42-year-old actress began a relationship with the “Creed III” star in May 2023, just months before he was convicted of harassment and assault on his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Now she admitted that her friends advised her to stay away from Jonathan because of his legal problems.
During an appearance on the “Today” show, Meagan revealed that her friends told her to “wait and see how everything (with the trial) turns out.”
She added: “Yes, every friend has advised me to do this, but at the end of the day, I know one thing: I can always look at myself in the mirror if I trust my spirit, if I trust God, if I ask God and if I go at my own pace.”
At the end of the trial in December 2023, Jonathan was found guilty of one count of third-degree reckless assault and one count of harassment, but Meagan stood by him and does not regret her decision.
She added: “I can always look back and say, ‘OK, I’m proud of that.’ No matter what happens, I have peace in my heart and I have harmony in my heart…
“The support we were able to give each other, the listening to each other, the honest conversations, the love, the respect, just the care and consideration… it was just wonderful.”
Jonathan’s legal problems brought the couple a lot of attention, but the “Harlem” actress recently stressed that she is trying to “stay authentic” and ignore the rumors.
She told PEOPLE: “I keep my eyes on God, you know, that’s the focus. And I stay true to myself and I stay authentic. I know what I know that I know.”
“And over time, everything else just catches up with what you know when you stay true to yourself and be authentic.
“There are things where you just have to say, ‘I don’t have time for that. Let me see what my nephew is doing. Let me see what my mom is doing. Let me see what my husband is doing. Let me get that job.'”
Jonathan was sentenced to a year of domestic violence intervention counselling following his conviction and recently spoke openly about the impact the court proceedings have had on him.
Accepting the award for perseverance at the 2024 Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards in June, he said, “I think people want to know about the last year.”
“As a black man in the criminal justice system, I felt anger. I felt sadness, pain and surprise.
“When they dragged me out of my apartment in handcuffs, I didn’t feel like that. I didn’t feel like Jonathan Majors…
“I felt like a little, scared, weak boy. Despite the support and evidence in my favor, I knew the shit was bad. It was bad because of who I was and what I am.”
Jonathan also acknowledged his “shortcomings” in his speech, adding: “We live in a world where men – especially black men – are portrayed as either superheroes or supervillains.
“But I’ve realized that I personally am none of those things. I’m imperfect. I have flaws, and I acknowledge them. I love my craft.”
