Jayson Tatum joins Michael Jordan and LeBron James on the historic list

Jayson Tatum joins Michael Jordan and LeBron James on the historic list

The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris did not go as planned for Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum. Although Tatum won a gold medal with Team USA, he played the second fewest minutes on the entire team throughout the entire run.

Tatum did not play a single minute in the semifinal game against Serbia and only 11 minutes in the gold medal game against France. Tatum’s 71 minutes at the Olympics were the second fewest on the team. Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton played the fewest (26).

Although he didn’t get the role he expected, Tatum still made history by becoming only the third player in NBA history to be named to the All-NBA First Team, alongside Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, winning an NBA championship and an Olympic gold medal in the same year.

Speaking to ESPN after Saturday’s game, Tatum was asked about this summer and his status for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

“It was a tough personal experience on the court, but I’m not going to make a decision based on emotions,” Tatum said. “If you asked me right now if I’m going to play in 2028 – that’s four years from now and I would have to take time and think about it. So I’m not going to make a decision based on that experience or my personal feelings.”

While Tatum would have liked to play more, it’s incredible to be on any list alongside James and Jordan, especially one that is so focused on individual and team success. Tatum is one of the best players in the NBA and could very well be one of the top stars on the U.S. team in 2028.
