Lorraine Kelly receives BAFTA Special Award 2024

As announced, Lorraine Kelly will receive a BAFTA Special Award.

Kelly will receive one of BAFTA’s highest honours for outstanding contribution to film, games or television, to mark her 40th anniversary in television.

The news was told to her by Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid live during the show Lorraine, which Kelly has presented on ITV for thirty years.

“It was a huge surprise to hear it on the radio this morning – what an honour to receive the BAFTA Special Award,” Kelly said in a statement.

“A huge thank you to everyone I’ve worked with over the years, both on and off the set. The people who make daytime TV are very special people.

“Now I have to go and find a stunning dress to wear to the BAFTAs on May 12th!”

Hilary Rosen, chair of BAFTA’s television committee, praised Kelly’s “radiant presence”.

“Lorraine Kelly has been a shining light on our screens for over 40 years and is one of television’s most recognizable and beloved stars,” said Rosen.

“On ITV’s Lorraine, she is a master at disarming guests with her warmth and relaxed demeanor, and always manages to make the day-to-day demands of live broadcasting look easy.

“She combines quick wit with genuine empathy, tackles difficult topics with skill and sensitivity, and uses her platform to raise awareness about the things that really matter.

“Lorraine has a deep and genuine connection with her audience and her longevity is a testament to the unique importance of daytime television and its staying power,” she continued in her statement.

“We are honoured to present Lorraine with the BAFTA Special Award at our upcoming BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises on May 12th.”

Kelly’s show Lorraine is also nominated in the Best Daytime Show category at the upcoming BAFTA TV Awards, which air on Sunday May 12.

Lorraine is broadcast on ITV every weekday from 9am.
