Youth sports team raises money before upcoming game

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – A Lee County sports team collected donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday outside Gieryic’s auto repair shop in Albany.

12u Xtremewarriors not only washed cars, they also stood on the corner and asked for donations.

WALB spoke to their two assistant coaches, who said the organization is a way for the youth to get off the streets and out of trouble, and it fosters brotherhood among members.

The organization not only offers youth tackle, but also soccer and basketball at various times of the year.

“I think it’s an experience for 12-year-olds, it’s especially like when you get to an age where you want to go to middle school. So it’s an experience that helps prepare you to move up to a new level,” said Robert Washington, 12-year-old with the Xtremewarriors.

“I’m pretty ready. All I have to do is go out there and do our part and we’ll win the game,” said Justen Jones, 12-year-old Xtremewarriors player.

The team’s opening game for the season will be on September 7 in Columbus against the Columbus Blazers.

The team plans to hold another fundraiser before the game, but they also accept donations year-round through their CashApp: 12uxtremewarriors.
