Devin Booker from Moss Point and US Basketball win gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris

Moss Point graduate Devin Booker won a gold medal with the U.S. national basketball team at the Olympic Games in Paris on Saturday with a 98-87 victory over France.

Booker started and scored 15 points – 13 of them in the first half – and had six rebounds and three assists. His biggest highlight came in the second quarter when he converted a fast break and the free throw after the foul.

The USA led by as many as 14 points after three quarters, but was only six points ahead at the start of the fourth quarter. France cut the lead to three points with three minutes left, but the USA secured its fifth consecutive gold medal thanks to four three-pointers from Stephen Curry.

Curry led the Americans with 24 points on eight 3-pointers; Victor Wembanyama led France with 26 points.

Booker was born in Michigan but moved to Mississippi in high school, where he was named to the Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen selection. He played one season at Kentucky and was selected in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. Booker, 27, has spent his entire career with the Suns and is a four-time NBA All-Star.

It is his second Olympic medal, as he was part of the USA gold medal team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
