80-year-old woman killed in car theft in Madison Valley

According to authorities, an 80-year-old woman had her car stolen and then run over in Seattle’s Madison Valley neighborhood on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on the street near Martin Luther King Jr. Way East and East Harrison Street. Seattle police and paramedics arrived at the scene and attempted to save the woman’s life, but she died at the scene.

According to police, the victim was a dog owner who had several dogs in her vehicle when she was carjacked and subsequently killed.

“We assume that this is an isolated case,” said Eric Munoz of the SPD shortly before noon. “There is no information to suggest that there is currently a danger to the population.”

Investigators said the woman was dragged by the fleeing suspect.

In addition to Seattle Fire Department personnel, several people nearby rushed to help the woman.

“To see an old lady lying on the ground and being run over is horrifying,” witness Ian Delile told KOMO News. “I’m upset and angry – this is not OK.”

The owners of one of the dogs in the car told KOMO News the animal was found about a mile from the scene of the carjacking.

Police did not release a description of the suspect other than that he is an adult male and officers are actively searching for the victim’s car.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
